Micro-loans for Women in Haiti

We raised money to support five women in Haiti to start and grow their businesses through micro-loan financing.

According to CIA.gov 2016, 75% of the Haitian population lives on less than $2 per day. That’s $730 a year if they work 365 days without break. Just imagine the impact a micro-loan of a few hundred dollars can have on their businesses- it can literally change their lives and the generations to come.

The micro-loan can give them a head start to purchase goods, rent a stall and sell things at their local market. It gives them the opportunity to work and be purposeful with their time. They can earn a living that not only puts food on the table, but allows them to send their children to school. More than that, it empowers the individual and restores dignity, which ultimately helps build up of the community as a whole.

While the micro-loan is bound by contract and requires being paid back, we decided that at the end of the loan period we will tell them that they get to keep the loan amount as a gift to further invest into their business.

Our awesome local partner Elvis, who runs the micro-loan program, helps monitor the businesses and checks in every quarter with the owners for progress updates. He also provides direct support and training as a business coach.
